A hearty Welcome to Somerset County in the beautiful Laurels Highlands of Western Pennsylvania! It is a joy to live in these mountains and have so many fantastic activities right in the backyard. Here you will find endless recreation, history, culture and an all-around great place to call home!
Our Northwood Realty office in Coffee Springs Farm, located at 555 East Main Street, Somerset, just happens to be the oldest house in Somerset County! The house was built in 1772 by Harmon Husband. You may remember his name from your history classes - he was a major player during the Whiskey Rebellion. Although the structure has been expanded a few times over the years, the original log home is still there beneath the lapboard siding. Stop by sometime and we’ll give you a tour!
Looking for winter sports? Summer sports? Water sports? Mountain sports? We have it all! Enjoy boating, kayaking, fishing, and other water activities at one our many streams, lakes, or rivers. We have four State Parks that offer great year-round activities such as camping and swimming. For the hunter, we have two State Game Land areas where the whitetail and other wildlife abound. Ski, snowboard, snowmobile, or enjoy any number of other wintertime activities at Seven Springs or Hidden Valley Ski Resorts.
Yes, we have hiking and biking too! The Great Allegheny Passage Trail winds through Somerset County from the Maryland line to Fayette County to the west, with stop-offs in Confluence, Rockwood, and Meyersdale. Hey racing fans, check out Jennerstown Speedway! It’s one of the oldest short tracks in the country and still going strong.
If you’re seeking a bit of culture, take in a play at The Mountain Playhouse, one of our country’s first summer stock theaters which located in Jennerstown. Or enjoy dinner theater at The Rockwood Opera House. Laurel Arts in Somerset Borough offers year round art exhibits, as well as instruction for all ages in dance, music, and of course art! Many fun filled festivals are held here each year – The Fire and Ice Festival, The Maple Festival, Mountain Craft Days, and Springs Folk Festival, just to name a few!
Did I mention the views here in Somerset County? They are breathtaking all year round, but check out the colors of autumn. They are truly something to behold! Imagine waking every morning and looking out your window to the majesty of these gorgeous mountains covered in snow, or dressed in gorgeous green foliage. Each season here is a feast for the eyes!
